About the job
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Consultant / Manager to assist our client in optimizing their licensing strategy and support contracts. The ideal candidate should have prior experience managing Oracle licencing, including negotiating renewals/contracts.
Background
As the business landscape evolves, the existing Named User Plus licensing model becomes less viable due to upcoming regulatory and operational changes such as eInvoicing and eDelivery. Additionally, there are legacy systems that are no longer actively maintained but still require read-only archival access, leading to unnecessary maintenance and support costs.
The successful candidate will assess the current Oracle licensing structure, identify cost-saving opportunities, and negotiate with Oracle to secure a more favourable contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing Oracle database licenses and determine which databases must transition from a Named User Plus to a CPU-based licensing model.
- Assess whether all databases need to switch licensing models due to interface dependencies.
- Identify support contracts that can be cancelled, ensuring compliance with Oracle’s terms and conditions.
- Evaluate retired systems maintained for audit purposes and explore cost-effective licensing strategies.
- Recommend archival strategies for decommissioned systems (e.g., Oracle Agile/Axalant) while avoiding unnecessary Oracle support fees.
- Develop a negotiation strategy to renegotiate existing Oracle licensing contracts, leveraging existing discounts on list prices to secure the best possible pricing and terms.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, legal teams, and Oracle representatives to execute contract modifications.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience with Oracle licensing models (Named User Plus, CPU-based, etc.).
- Strong understanding of Oracle support agreements and contract negotiation strategies.
- Experience in evaluating legacy and retired systems to optimize licensing costs.
- Proven track record of successful contract negotiations with Oracle.
- Knowledge of Oracle database architecture and how licensing models impact system integration.
- Familiarity with Oracle PCA environments and their impact on licensing strategies.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with IT, finance, and legal teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with Oracle eBusiness Suite licensing and compliance.
- Experience with tax authority audit requirements for database retention.
- Legal or procurement background related to IT contracts.
