France Is Getting Ready to Say Au Revoir to PDF Invoices for Good
May 2, 2025

From September 1, 2026, all VAT-registered businesses must be able to receive electronic invoices. Here's what France's e-invoicing reform means and how to prepare.
France's e-invoicing reform is coming, and it changes how every VAT-registered business sends and receives invoices.
What's changing?
- Goodbye PDFs and email attachments — hello standardized formats like UBL, CII, and more.
- A certified Partner Dematerialization Platform (PDP) will be essential.
- Every invoice and transaction must be reported directly to the French tax authority.
- Even if you don't send invoices, you'll still need to receive them — and possibly share data too.
- If you work with consumers, international clients, or in construction, expect additional e-reporting requirements.
The upside
- Pre-filled VAT returns
- Real-time reporting
- Stronger fraud prevention
- Smoother compliance processes, once you're set up right
